GREENBERG COMMERCIAL TO CHANGE NAME TO GREENBERG GIBBONS COMMERCIAL CORPORATION
Owings Mills, MD (December 15, 2005) – Greenberg Commercial Corporation, the Owings Mills, MD-based developer of retail properties and mixed-use developments, has announced a change to its corporate name to Greenberg Gibbons Commercial Corporation, effective January 1. The company was founded by its current Chairman, Erwin L. Greenberg in 1968, and was formerly known as the Erwin L. Greenberg Commercial Corporation.
The new corporate identity reflects the increased role and influence of Brian J. Gibbons, 44, who was named President and Chief Executive Officer of the firm on May 1, 1999. Gibbons, who was formerly a Partner with the Baltimore law firm of Fedder & Garten, also played a key role -- along with Erwin Greenberg -- in the creation of a joint venture between the company and PREI, the real estate investment arm of Prudential Financial, Inc. This partnership has helped fuel development activities at The Village at Waugh Chapel, Hunt Valley Towne Centre and Annapolis Towne Centre at Parole, among other properties.
“The company was very successful prior to Brian’s arrival, but his strong ambition, relentless energy and forward vision have been instrumental in bringing the company to the national stage in a relatively short timeframe,” stated Erwin L. Greenberg, Chairman of the company. “With his continued leadership, guidance and mentorship, our goal is to tackle additional high-visibility, mixed-use projects in the mid-Atlantic region. Adding Brian’s name to our corporate identity is a reflection of his significance and value to our future,” he added.
Recent successes of the company include the re-development of Hunt Valley Mall into Hunt Valley Towne Centre, a 980,000 square foot lifestyle center that features the first Wegmans Food Market in the State of Maryland. In addition, ground was recently broken on Annapolis Towne Centre at Parole, a $400 million mixed-use development that will combine office, retail and residential components, as well as a hotel in the City of Annapolis. A third project, The Village at Waugh Chapel, is recognized as among the first in the new wave of “Main Street lifestyle” projects that are sweeping the country.
Other projects in the company’s portfolio that have been completed, re-developed or are presently under construction in Maryland include Edgewater Village Center and Burwood Village Center in Anne Arundel County; White Marlin Mall in Ocean City; Westminster Crossing East and Westminster Crossing West in Carroll County and The Shops at Breton Bay in St. Mary’s County. Representative Virginia projects include Braemar Village Center in Gainesville and Hampton Towne Centre in Hampton.
“Erwin is a true entrepreneur who has developed more than three million square feet of retail space throughout the region, and is recognized as an icon in the local and national retail real estate industry,” said Brian Gibbons. “It is an honor to work as a team to continue the success that he has started and as we focus on the next generation of mixed-use projects. As his partner, I appreciate the confidence he has in me,” he added.
Greenberg Commercial Corporation focuses on the acquisition, development, leasing and management of mixed-use properties and retail shopping centers in the Mid-Atlantic region. The firm builds value in these holdings through asset management, re-development and leasing activities. The company presently owns and manages eighteen properties totaling more than three million square feet of space.
