GAVIGANS HOME FURNISHINGS SIGNS 27,500 SQUARE FOOT LEASE AT WESTMINSTER CROSSING
New site, which represents first in Carroll County area,
expected to be operational by July
Westminster, MD (March 1, 2005) – Greenberg Gibbons Commercial Corporation has announced that Gavigans Home Furnishings has signed a lease for 27,500 square feet of space at Westminster Crossing, a 225,000 square foot shopping center located at the intersection of Englar Road and MD Route 140 in Westminster, MD. The space represents the last remaining major vacancy at the shopping center, which has been undergoing a major renovation and releasing effort since Greenberg Gibbons Commercial purchased the project in 2003. The center is now 98% leased.
This is the first Carroll County location for Gavigans Home Furnishings, also operates locations at Governor’s Plaza Shopping Center in Glen Burnie (Anne Arundel County) and on Holabird Avenue in Dundalk (Baltimore County). The retailer specializes in the sale of living, family, dining and bedroom furniture, entertainment centers, occasional furniture, and a full line of reclining furniture, and accessories. The family-owned company has been in business for more than twenty-two years.
“Westminster Crossing offers us an attractive blend of outstanding consumer demographics, coupled with strong anchor tenants in a newly renovated regional shopping center,” stated David Gavigan, Vice President for Gavigan’s Home Furnishings. “The primary customer of our store concept is families that are interested in furnishing or upgrading their home, and Carroll County provides us with a great opportunity to reach this group. The Center draws regionally from southern Pennsylvania, western Baltimore County and Frederick County, which was also an important consideration and benefit,” he added.
Since November 2004, Greenberg Gibbons Commercial has signed major leases with Marshall’s (31,674 square feet), Bed, Bath & Beyond (25,079 square feet), Michaels Stores (25,000 square feet), Office Depot (18,540 square feet) and Old Navy (14,725 square feet). Including Gavigans Home Furnishings, as smaller leases with Panera Bread and Buffalo Wild Wings, more than 150,000 square feet of space has been signed in this timeframe.
“The addition of Gavigans Home Furnishings rounds out and substantially completes our re-tenanting program at Westminster Crossing, and the retailer will be an excellent addition to our merchant mix,” said Mark Bomse, Vice President of Greenberg Gibbons Commercial. “We had substantial interest in the last remaining large space at the center, and believe Gavigans offers the selection and quality of merchandise that will draw consumers from throughout the Carroll County marketplace and beyond. Furniture stores tend to draw a fresh influx of consumers to retail centers on a regular basis, a phenomenon that will generate new opportunities for our other tenants,” he added.
In late 2003, Greenberg Gibbons Commercial unveiled plans to inject more than $15 million in improvements into the former Englar Shopping Center and former Lowe’s hardware store site. The western portion of the shopping center contains approximately 125,000 square feet of space and features SuperFresh, Office Depot, Michaels and CVS Pharmacy. Bed, Bath & Beyond, Old Navy and Marshalls are located in the center’s east section.
