HALL OF FAME BROADCASTER CHUCK THOMPSON TO BE IMMORTALIZED AT HUNT VALLEY TOWNE CENTRE

Plaque dedication and ceremony to be held September 28 at re-developed retail center, as part of grand opening week

Owings Mills, MD (September 21, 2005) – Hall of Fame broadcaster Chuck Thompson will be immortalized with a plaque that celebrates his life and contributions to the Baltimore sports community, at Hunt Valley Towne Centre in Hunt Valley. The plaque, which will be formally dedicated and unveiled at a ceremony on Wednesday, September 28, will be part of a new outdoor fireplace located in the new "Chuck Thompson Memorial Plaza" in the 980,000 square foot lifestyle center. The ceremony, which will include a Chuck Thompson Tribute, starts at 10 am and is free and open to the public.

Thompson, who passed away this past March, is enshrined in the broadcast wing of the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York, and is recognized as the radio and television voice of the Baltimore Colts and Orioles. He first received national acclaim with his description of the 1958 championship football game between the Baltimore Colts and the New York Giants. Thompson started his career as the broadcasting voice of the Philadelphia Phillies in 1946. He moved to Baltimore in 1949, where he broadcast the minor league Baltimore Orioles and later became a fixture with the Baltimore Colts beginning in 1953.

Thompson lived in nearby Timonium, Maryland with his wife Betty, who will participate in the dedication. Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith is among the special guests that will also be a part of the festivities.

"Chuck Thompson is synonymous with Baltimore professional sports and his broadcasting legacy extends over all generations in the local region," stated Brian Gibbons, President and CEO of Greenberg Gibbons Commercial Corporation. "In our effort to create an atmosphere that is memorable and welcoming, this memorial plaque represents the perfect symbol for area residents. The outdoor fireplace and garden area have been designed as an iconic gathering place and point of reference for the project," he added.

The dedication kicks off five days of festivities and celebrations to mark the grand opening of Hunt Valley Towne Centre. The first Wegmans Food Market in Maryland will debut on Sunday, October 2.
