Greenberg Gibbons Plans $20 Million Renovation for The Shops at Kenilworth

Owings Mills, Md. (February 18, 2015) — Greenberg Gibbons announced today plans for a $20 million renovation to The Shops at Kenilworth, a landmark shopping destination in Towson, Md., originally built in 1979.

Plans call for transforming the concrete exterior and outdated interior into a more contemporary and welcoming specialty shopping and community gathering place. The design concept includes reducing the current space by 8,000 square feet and adding a 20,000-square-foot, three-level “marketplace” featuring a wine bar, a mix of casual and fine dining options, and a rooftop garden with panoramic views.

Exterior renovation plans include adding grand front and side entryways that welcome visitors and improve the overall flow of foot traffic. Interior plans call for contemporary fixtures, updated floors and wAbout Faces

arm woods throughout, while incorporating natural light to create an inviting environment. The project also will maintain ample, convenient parking to ensure an easy in-and-out shopping experience.

“With some creativity and polish, this community gem will continue to sparkle for generations to come,” said Brian Gibbons, CEO and chairman of Greenberg Gibbons. “Growing up in the Baltimore area, this is a place my friends and family visited for shopping and great community events, like the holiday train garden. We plan to maintain these traditions, but add a fresh look and new energy.”

The Shops at Kenilworth will retain a mix of some of Baltimore’s most beloved stores with a handful of complementary national retailers, anchored by existing tenants, including a Jos. A. Bank flagship store, Stebbins Anderson, South Moon Under and About Faces Day Spa & Salon.

Local elected officials applauded the project. “This is terrific news for Towson,” said Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz.  “Brian Gibbons and the entire Greenberg Gibbons team do outstanding work as evidenced by Hunt Valley Towne Centre and the soon to open Foundry Row.  Having them bring their expertise to this very familiar location is just one more example that it is indeed Towson’s time.”

“We are particularly excited that a local company like Greenberg Gibbons is making this level of investment in our community,” said Baltimore County Councilman David Marks. “This developer has an exceptional track record of success and I’m sure The Shops at Kenilworth will be another hometown jewel.”

Retailers will remain open and operational during the renovation, which will take place in four phases to minimize disruptions. Construction could begin as early as May 2015 with a target completion date of summer 2017.

“As a long-time tenant of The Shops at Kenilworth, I’ve seen many updates to this mall and this is exactly what we need and is very timely,” said Patrick Brennan, co-owner of About Faces Day Spa & Salon. “The renovations will preserve what we love about this place, while bringing fresh flair and style. It’s really exciting to be a part of this next generation for Kenilworth and and About Faces!

Greenberg Gibbons purchased an interest in and began managing The Shops at Kenilworth in July 2014. The Owings Mills-based company will assume its remaining ownership of the property in April of this year.
