
David Bookhout
Senior Vice President, Development & Investments
Mr. Bookhout serves as Senior Vice President of Development & Investments. He plays a lead role in the company’s mixed-use development division, with responsibility for sourcing, evaluating, underwriting, acquiring and executing projects in the Mid-Atlantic region and the Carolinas. Prior to joining Greenberg Gibbons in 2021, he was Vice President of the Mid-Atlantic & Carolinas Regions for AvalonBay Communities, where he specialized in mixed-use projects that feature multifamily housing over retail and led teams that delivered more than 2,300 units. Mr. Bookhout holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina, a Master of Professional Accounting from the University of Texas, and a Master of Business Administration from the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina. He is a Certified Public Accountant and serves on the UNC Kenan–Flagler Business School’s Board of Advisors, and has previously served on the Board of Directors for AIRS-Empire Homes and the Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore. He is a member of International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and Urban Land Institute (ULI).

- Product: 400-unit, 24-story concrete high-rise. ~8,000 sq. ft. retail (AVB owned).
- Role:Sourced site and led team throughout project including investment committee approvals, financing, entitlements, design, construction, and lease-up.
Avalon Foundry Row – Owings Mills, MD
- Product: 437-unit, wood-frame, 5-story wrap (3a), horizontal
- Role: Sourced site through excellent relationship with Greenberg Gibbons based on execution at Hunt Valley Town Center. Led team at various stages of project including investment committee approvals, financing, entitlements, design, construction, and lease-up.
Avalon Towson – Towson, MD
- Product: 371-unit, retail podium with 5-story wood-frame (3a) & high-rise Hambro over podium parking. ~40,000 sq. ft retail and associated parking built and delivered to retail partner.
- Role: Sourced site and led team throughout project including investment committee approvals, financing, entitlements, design, construction, and lease-up. Led all coordination with retail partner including legal agreements such as Development, Construction, and Easement Agreement; Condominium Declaration; and Reciprocal Easement Agreement.
Avalon Hunt Valley – Hunt Valley, MD
- Product: 332-unit, wood-frame, 5-story wrap (3a). ~30,000 sq. ft retail under podium built and delivered to retail partner.
- Role: Took over leadership of project in early schematic design and led team throughout remainder of project including investment committee approvals, financing, entitlements, design, construction, and lease-up. Led all coordination with retail partner including legal agreements such as Development and Construction Agreement, Condominium Declaration, and Reciprocal Easement Agreement.
AVA NOMA – Washington, D.C.
- Product: 438-unit, 13-story concrete high-rise. ~7,000 sq. ft. retail (AVB owned).
- Role: Supervised Development Associate leading project from early construction and had responsibility for overall project supervision through stabilization.
Avalon Falls Church – Falls Church, VA
- Product: 384-unit, 3-story garden community (5a) (54 of 384 units were for-rent townhomes).
- Role: Took over project during construction documents phase of design prior to construction start and led team throughout remainder of project including final investment committee approvals, financing, construction, and lease-up.
Avalon Arlington North – Arlington, VA
- Product: 228-unit, wood-frame, 5-story wrap (3a).
- Role: Took over project toward end of construction completion and mid-lease-up and managed through stabilization and close-out.
