(September 20, 2021) — Developer Greenberg Gibbons and Towson University today celebrated the opening of StarTUp in the Armory, the university’s new entrepreneurship and innovation hub located within Towson Row, the $350 million mixed-use destination and gateway to downtown Towson, Md.
StarTUp acts as the university’s “front door” for start-ups, small businesses, and corporations to connect and pursue opportunities for innovative collaboration and venture creation. The 26,000-square-foot hub includes:
- 6,000 square feet of coworking space that is free for entrepreneurs, students, and community members to use, and offers state-of-the-art technology and high-speed Wi-Fi
- Open space for events with up to 500 guests
- Seven conference rooms, including a media/gaming high-tech room
- Boardroom with seating for up to 24
- Multipurpose room for 75 people
- 15 offices for university-affiliated ventures, StarTUp staff, and partner organizations

The Armory at Towson Row is an adaptive redevelopment of the historic National Guard Armory building on West Susquehanna Avenue. Besides StarTUp it also features a soon-to-open Starbucks with outdoor seating and another 5,400 square feet of space for a restaurant or brewery.

Towson Row, a premiere mixed-use development by Greenberg Gibbons and Caves Valley Partners, is located on five acres between York Road, Towsontown Boulevard, Washington Avenue and Chesapeake Avenue. In addition to the Armory, the 1.2 million-square-foot development features 150,000 square feet of Class A office space, Altus at Towson Row student housing, The York at Towson Row apartment complex, and a 220-room dual-flag hotel. It will be anchored by a 45,000-square-foot Whole Foods Market and will include over 75,000 square feet of retail/restaurant space.
